It is common for many people to see breakouts after waxing, no matter what age or skin type. Although it may look like a breakout, the irritation one may experience can be prevented by using proper waxing protocols. In order to avoid these red bumps, here are a few tips to follow before and after your appointment.

• Gently exfoliate the area being waxed the day before your appointment. This will help to remove any excess skin or oil that may prevent the hair from being successfully removed.
• After your wax, do not touch the skin! Although the skin is smooth and hair-free, the pores from which the hair was removed take some time to close up. The oils and bacteria from your hands may clog the follicles creating a breakout.
• Once the skin feels less sensitive, usually about 24 hours after, gently exfoliate the skin again unless it is red or feels tender. Continue to exfoliate everyday in between waxes.
• If the breakout has already happened, do not pick the irritated skin or bumps. Instead, cleanse the skin with a light, oil-free anti-bacterial wash. This helps to remove excess bacteria that may have gotten under the skin. Also, using products such as PFB or products with a small amount of AHA’s help to reduce ingrown or waxing bumps. Their acidic formulas are specifically designed to be gentle, yet effective, on the skin.
• Avoid places that double- dip their sticks!! Waxing applicators that are used multiple times carry bacteria and germs that can clog your pores.
• Make sure to use hard wax in the bikini area. High-quality hard wax is beneficial to the skin because it is hypo-allergenic and hyper-sensitive so it will not irritate skin.

Taking care of your skin by preventing or managing ingrowns and irritation will help you receive a flawless wax. Remember, your skin is with you for life, so make sure you treat it right!

The ladies of OC Waxing would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to all of those who showed support at our first annual “Bald for Boobs”event on October 22^nd. We had so much fun raising money for breast cancer awareness and couldn’t have done it without our amazing sponsors and clients! Throughout the day we waxed over 50 women and raised more than $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen foundation through services, jewelry sales, raffles and donations.  With the help of San Mar Apparel, Graphics Plus, Luscious Lashes, Freshends, Stella& Dot, South Coast Glow, Staples Orthodontics, and our event participants, all of the money raised will be donated to finding a cure!  It was very rewarding to see our community come together and help us in the fight against breast cancer.
